Fire Sprinklers Are Green

Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation realizes that the raw materials available in the world are not an endless resource and, therefore, takes into consideration the amount of recycled material that is used by a vendor to produce components for our sprinklers and valves as one of the qualifying factors.

Globe sources the components used to assemble our sprinklers and valves from both domestic and international suppliers.  All sprinklers and valves are assembled in our Standish, Michigan factory.  The finished products are then distributed around the country, usually by truck.

The amount of recycled material that is used to make our valves varies slightly by the vendor used and the particular valve.  We have been able to determine that the amount of recycled material is between 71% and 75% of the valve by weight.

The frame castings used to make our sprinklers have been found to utilize 100% recycled materials.  When all of the other components are combined with the frames, we end up with a total recycled content of 90% to 95% by weight.

Should additional information be required, please contact Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation in Standish, Michigan.

Counterfeit Sprinkler Bulletin

RE: UL's Press Release Dated 06/18/08

Dear Fire Protection Professionals,

Recently Underwriters Laboratories issued a press release dated 6/18/08 concerning specific counterfeited Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation sprinkler heads. The following are the models identified in the press release:

A. MODEL GL5651 (5mm 1/2"x1/2" chrome 155F pendent sprinkler heads counterfeited in 2004)

B. MODEL GL5661 (5mm 1/2"x1/2" chrome 155F pendent sprinkler heads counterfeited in 2004)

C. MODEL GL5626 (5mm 1/2"x1/2" chrome 155F horizontal sidewall sprinkler heads counterfeited in 2004)

D. MODEL GL5681 (5mm 1/2"x1/2" dry concealed 155F sprinkler heads counterfeited in 2006)

Although we appreciate UL decided to alert the industry concerning the counterfeiting, once again, Globe feels that additional clarification is needed to avoid confusion concerning the matter.

Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation has been working closely with UL and the other USA based sprinkler manufacturers concerning counterfeit sprinklers being produced in China. The counterfeited sprinkler heads pertain to the same information we documented two years ago when UL released a similar press release on 7/14/06. The sprinkler heads in question were found in Kuwait and parts of Southeast Asia. Once again, Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation is not the only US based sprinkler manufacturer that has experienced problems with counterfeit sprinkler heads. Some of our competitors still continue to feel the effects of the counterfeiters in certain parts of the world. Subsequently, we are not aware of any counterfeit Globe sprinkler heads entering the United States, Canada or other markets worldwide.

If you have any additional questions concerning the UL press release, please feel free to contact Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation at 1-989-846-4583.

Sincerely,

Steven R. Worthington, IMBA
Executive Vice President

Dry Upright Sprinklers should be measured from the face of the   fitting that the Dry Sprinkler is screwed into to the top of the sprinkler deflector. Dry   Horizontal Sprinklers should be measured from the face of the fitting that the Dry   Sprinkler is screwed into to the finished wall surface.
